Erin and Ben Napier of 'Home Town' Just Revealed Some Seriously Exciting News
Major congratulations are in order for Erin and Ben Napier, hosts ofHome Townon HGTV.The couple just announced that they are expecting a baby, a girl to be named Helen after Erin's grandmother—and they're alreadyseven months along!
Erin teased that she and Ben had "a secret" in an adorable photo on Instagram and directed her followers to a post on her blog, The Daily Journal on the Laurel Mercantile website. In the picture, Erin rests her hand on her stomach, hinting at the exciting news.
On the blog, Erin details a day back in May when she felt so tired she just "knew." A pregnancy test confirmed her suspicion, and she ran to Ben, crying, to tell him the news. Ben felt pure joy (Erin even says her husband talks to his little girl under the covers every night, which is just about the sweetest thing we've ever heard), but Erin's reaction was actually relief. The host reveals that pregnancy and motherhood has been her "greatest, and most hated fear." Still, last year, she and Ben began thinking about starting a family (which the two toldCountry Livingback in March). And now, what Erin calls the hardest part—the "if" and "when"—has been answered.
"My prayer for Helen is that she will be brave and kind," Erin writes. "I pray that she will not be bullied the way I was, and that she will be a protector of the ones who are. I pray that she will learn that from her father, the protector who loves the people in his lifesowell."
Incredibly, the couple managed to keep the baby news a secret for seven months, even while filming season two. Erin says the upcoming episodes will show their journey to parenthood—and the premiere date will be announced tomorrow. That means there are only two months to go until Helen Napier is here. Perhaps she'll be a Christmas baby!
So, why the discretion? Erin explains:
"We've kept it a secret because it felt too close and too important to share. ... It's too hard to hide now, and Laurel has been whispering but respectfully keeping it here in our family of community. Lately, everything in our life feels like it's so much, so big, all the time. It's like looking directly at the sun. You can't, or it would be too much. And so this one thing, this person who would make us three instead of two, had to be something normal without fuss or fanfare or onesies that say things. It's the way life goes, the way the family tree changes and grows, and I'm grateful to be part of it, this completely, utterly normal part of life that for so long felt too big and too scary for me to do.
