Nurse Thinks Mom Hasn’t Noticed Her, But Mom Can’t Stay Silent About What She’s Seen Her Do
Mother Has Devastating Stroke That Wiped Her Memory—Moments After Giving Birth to Twins
Charlotte Fairlie, 34, from Monmouth, Wales, was ecstatic when she and her husband, Rob Fairlie, learned that they were expectingtwins. The couple have been together for ten years, and the news of such a welcome addition to their family blew them away.
Fairlie's pregnancy was healthy—she didn't face any serious complications, and doctors were expecting a normal birth for her two twin boys.
Just moments after giving birth to two healthy baby boys, Fairlie wasstruck with severe pre-eclampsia, a pregnancy condition that includes high blood pressure, swelling of the hands of feet, and could lead to organ damage. Only moments after she had held her newborn sons for the first time, Fairlie suffered from adevastating strokeas a result of the pre-eclampsia. She began to slur and then suddenly was unable to move her left side. Doctors had to remove part of her skull to save her life after two brain bleeds.
Because of the stroke, Fairlie was left partially paralyzed—and worst of all, she had such bad amnesia that she couldn't even remember being pregnant. She recognized her own husband, but all memories of her wedding day or being pregnant had been completely wiped.
Ten months later, Fairlie is fighting to recover from the medical disaster that left her family heartbroken. She can say a few words and can walk a couple of steps—but she is unable to hold her own sons, as she cannot move one arm.
Her husband said, "It breaks my heart to see her like this. Charlotte needs 24/7 care, and [we don't know] how much better she will get […] She was so desperate to be a mum and I want to help her do that."
A family friend, Stephanie Haagen, set up a GoFundMe page to help the couple with the costs of raising two children and paying for extensive medical bills for Fairlie's care. Haagen said, "Charlotte just adores her sons and her focus and dedication to getting herself as well as humanly possible is unwavering."
Rob Fairlie said, "[Charlotte is] very happy to be home. Everything starts now.
