Curls, kinks, waves – however you like your texture, it’s your hair’s greatest ally if you want thicker, fuller- looking hair, says Aveda’s Advanced Master Creative Director, Michael Lendon. ‘Texture creates width and height, giving the illusion of fuller hair.’ To encourage your hair’s natural movement, follow Michael’s texture-forming tips…

Dry-In Texture

‘Prep your hair with Pure AbundanceTM Style-Prep™ and start your blow-dry at the area where you want to encourage the most lift (usually at the crown). As you dry hair, twist or scrunch sections with Phomollient™ Styling Foam to encourage curl formation. Use a diffuser nozzle to increase movement and wave.

To create more texture, sprinkle Pure AbundanceTM Hair Potion over the roots and lengths of your hair and use fingertips to dress out the curl. For longer lengths, scrunch a smidgen of Light ElementsTM Texturizing Creme into dry hair to give definition without weighing the hair down.’

Overnight Texture

‘If you hair really isn’t keen on curl, then give it some extra oomph overnight. Split your hair into four sections and twist each into a small bun and secure, then head to bed. In the morning, dress out with your fingertips and spritz with Air ControlTM Hair Spray for flexible hold. To revive texture on dry hair throughout the day, spray a couple pumps of Volumizing Tonic™ into your palms and scrunch through the hair for instant body.’

On Trend Texture

Don’t let a lack of volume or thickness stop you from trying the season’s hottest styles. Try the on-trend top knot, but add a dose of texture for a fuller finish, encourages Michael. ‘Prep and dry your hair as noted above in the “Dry-In Texture” section. Once dry, gently back-comb your hair at the crown and apply Air ControlTM Hair Spray for hold. Loosely guide your hair into a ponytail slightly forward from the crown and fasten, then gently loosen, the hair at the crown with your fingertips to give the appearance of lift. Back-comb the length of the ponytail, then twist it round to form the top knot and secure with pins. Finish with a dusting of Pure AbundanceTM Hair Potion at the crown to enhance the gritty texture and pull loose a few strands at the nape for a natural, lived-in feel.’

Whether you fear the frizz or dream of smooth, straight locks, find out how YOU can .
